In early March our curling team won the Regional Curling Bonspiel, organized by 211 Sqn. Clockwise from top, Sgt C. Dacey, AC S. Storey, FSgt S. Carraro, FSgt G. Liakos, FSgt A. McCaffrey-Kohler, Sgt M. Wilson, WO1 M. Quinn and FSgt J. Cornish.
742 Sqn always does well at the Olympiad Outaouais, held at the Hull Armouries and organized by 500 Sqn. This year we didn't win any sports competitions (but came pretty close) but we did win the Drill competition. Capt Stewart, CO 872 Sqn (which ended up winning the overall trophy) presents the Drill Team Commander, WO2 S. Lajeunesse, with the award.
Every year, an Effective Speaking competition is held to choose a cadet to represent the Ottawa Valley at the provincial competition. Our Squadron representative for this year was a recruit, AC J. Eckold. She did very well, actually finishing 5th overall.
In April it was time to once again bid farewell to our retiring WO1. WO1 M. Quinn received the traditional farewell frame, and was succeeded by WO2 R. Fantham.
On the Saturday night, flights had to create skits for entertainment, and FSgt K. Nicolacopoulos did a great impersonation of the CO, including the famous three-finger tummy scratch.
It must have worked, because Mynarski flight (commanded by FSgt M-A. Presseault) won the overall plaque. The real reason is that the flight did very well throughout the weekend, but the tummy scratch must have helped.....
