
What we refer to as "training" includes the training we hold at the
Squadron, as well as other activities which are held in the Ottawa Valley
and beyond...
Squadron Training
Our squadron's training is divided into two separate components: Thursday
Night Training is the mandatory training, and the Speciality Training is
optional and held on weekends.

Thursday Night Training

18:20 to 21:30

September to June

Training given by senior cadets, staff members and guest lecturers

Specialty Training

Aviation Ground School (Sunday 09:30 to 12:30-held late September to the
end of January) 2 different levels, must be at least 1 year away from being eligible for a scholarship.

Drill (Sunday 13:00 to 15:00)

Band (Sunday 15:00 to 17:00)

Bush Weekends (at least one per training year)

Range (on Bush Weekends and at other times during the year).

We use Lee-Enfield No. 7 or Anschutz .22cal rifles and Daisy 853C .177cal air rifles.

First Aid (held once a year for levels 2 and up)

Sports (days and times vary with seasons, but usually Friday evenings or
Saturdays)
Other Squadron Activities
The other activities 742 Sqn is involved in are either in support of
the training curriculum, to do fund raising, or to reward deserving cadets.

Inter-Squadron competitions

Sports (baseball, swimming, bowling, biathlon, curling, Olympiad)

Drill (in the Ottawa Valley and against other squadrons from Eastern Region)

Familiarization Flying

Airplanes (usually Beechcraft Sport Be-19)

Gliders (Schweizer SGS 2-33A owned by the Air Cadet League of Canada)

Trips (usually at the end of the training year to reward deserving cadets)

Fund Raising (usually only twice per year)

Inter-Squadron exchanges (not done every year)
