Retrospect: November 98 to February 99
November
.22cal Range Day
Rifle firing is part of our curriculum, and 742 Squadron has a very active shooting program,
firing both Lee-Enfield and Anshutz.22cal rifles, as well as Daisy 853C air rifles. In November
about 40 cadets and a few staff members were able to shoot the Anshutz rifles. Shown here are
some of the coaches for the day: FSgt S. Lajeunesse, FSgt R. Gillespie, 2Lt P. Clermont, Sgt J.
Erling and 2Lt C. Choinière.
December
Canada Post Xmas Party
For the past few years, Canada Post
has asked cadets from 742 Squadron to provide animation for their Christmas Party. Cpls G.
Levesque, C. Grant, A. Plant-Hicks and M. MacInnis-Brock handed out balloons and generally
made themselves amusing to the children present.
Junior Bush Weekend at Pointe-au-Chêne QC
In early December, all the recruits and junior cadets that could attend were bused to a
Cadet/Scout camp in Pointe-au-Chêne QC for introductory bushcraft classes, range and missions,
which included tackling an obstacle course...
...the CO "cook'd sum bac'n"(and lunch, and dinner)...
...but even if he was the head cook, the cadets seemed to enjoy their weekend nonetheless <;-)
( that, by the way, was an Air Cadet smiley, with the wedge and all)
February
Wing Commander Retirement
Early in February, our Wing Commander, WO1 G. Oxley, retired from the cadet movement. As
a departure gift, he received a frame containing all of his achievements, the traditional departure
gift for Cadet Commanders. WO2 M. Quinn was promoted to fill his position.
Senior Bush Weekend at Pointe-au-Chêne QC
In late February it was the Senior Cadets' turn to be taken out into the bush at Pointe-au-Chêne.
But they were there to hone their leadership skills and review some basic bushcraft. Oh, and they
also got to shoot and go through the obstacle course.
Lt C. Deneumoustier was very clear from the start...
...that's probably why Cpl J. Thompson enjoyed being out
on the obstacle course so much, even if he did have to cross a ravine on a tightrope.
