The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle of Second World War, beginning at the outbreak of war in September 1939 and continuing until the surrender of Germany in May 1945. Throughout the Battle, German u-boats and surface ships wrecked havoc on the convoys and their escorts (both naval and aerial). To commemorate this great battle, members of the Canadian Navy (including Sea Cadets) and the Canadian Air Force (including Air Cadets), and of course veterans, parade on the first Saturday in May to pay respect to those who fought and those who never came back. Our Squadron once again had the privilege of representing the Air Cadets at this parade.
Lt Choinière leads the Air Cadet contingent (composed exclusively of 50 members of 742 Sqn) on to the Parliament Hill walkway, where the parade was held this year.
And for the first time this year a cadet band was leading the whole parade (including the veterans and the Colour Parties). The band in question was from RCSCC Falkland, supported by 5 musicians from our Squadron Band.
Six of our senior cadets also served as Wreath Bearers for the parade, assisting VIPs in laying their wreaths at the Memorial:
FSgt G. Liakos,
Sgt C. Grant,
Sgt D. Eckold,
Sgt H. Wallingford,
FSgt R. Martineau,
and WO2 S. Lajeunesse.
Well done. You all represented the Air Cadets very well.
Many of our cadets (about 75) got the chance to fly in a Schweizer 2-33A Air Cadet glider at the Embrun Gliding Center recently, including...
...LAC B. Ficko, who was flying in a glider for the first time (our own WO2 Parker was his pilot)...
...as well as LAC N. Van Adrichem, who was also gliding for the first time.
And here is the birthday bunch for the month of May. Come on guys, smile! It's your birthday!!
