The Regional Olympiads are held every year by 500 Outaouais Sqn. It is a competition to which all Sqns in the Ottawa Valley are invited, and face each other in drill and a variety of sports, from tug of war to smoosh racing.
The opening ceremonies. Yeah, that's us covering the whole width of the Armoury...
And here's the cheering section (also known as the Peanut Gallery), awaiting the arrival of our Drill Team to the floor.
Here they are, preparing to start...
...and here they are in full swing!
Everyone then moved outside for the sports competitions. This is our Potato Sack Race team. From left, LAC J. Hackett, LAC D. Fantham, AC B. Murray, Cpl D. Menton, FSgt M-A. Presseault, Cpl B. Wallace, AC D. Drapeau and FSgt A. McCaffrey-Kohler. Our mascot, the 742 Devil (LAC B. Godin) led the cheering...
...which spead to the rest of the Sqn.
Next up, the Snow Shoe team. From left, Cpl S. Lamb, Cpl E. Nadjakov, AC St-Denis, FSgt S. Curry, Cpl B. Wallace, Cpl M. Fransham, Cpl S. Halloran and AC S. Rokni.
In the meantime, some of our cadets made a big 742 in snow for everyone to see.
Our next event was the Smoosh Race. Now you may be wondering what the heck a smoosh is. Well, it's two long pieces of wood with straps on them. People put their feet in the straps (about 6 people at a time) and try to move forward. Front: Cpl J. Sheehan. Kneeling: AC C. Meelker, FSgt V. Murray, Sgt C. Grant, Cpl J. Eckold, Sgt J. Mann and AC Vincent. Standing: Cpl M. Shives, Sgt N. Gignac, AC B. Ficko, Cpl C. Cumming and Cpl G. Danson.
The Waiter's Run team was the next one in action. Front: AC Gratton, AC M. Psutka and AC W. Robertson. Back: Cpl S. Reed, Cpl T. Ross, Cpl C. Caron, Cpl D. Walper and Cpl A. Kyritzopoulos.
Now what would a sports day be without an Obstacle Course? Front: AC C. Kruschinske, Cpl D. Ruth and FSgt J. Dykstra. Back: Sgt S. Godin, FSgt G. Liakos, WO1 R. Fantham, AC E. Robertson and AC Jackson.
The rank race is exactly that: one person from each rank (as possible) races around a course. The Sqn that's done first wins! FSgt S. Curry, LAC Crosby, AC Prince, Sgt D. Eckold, Cpl C. Kruschinske, AC Sindall, Cpl P. Boone, LAC B. Godin, FSgt J. Dykstra and WO1 R. Fantham.
And the final event of the day, the Tug-of-War. WO2 S. Lajeunesse, Cpl A. Rattray-Johnson, Cpl A. Savard and AC Bloomquist gave it their best pull.
